Even if it was HPV, while HPV can be spread to the mouth, it is uncommon both because the virus just does not seem to infect oral mucous membranes well and, as you mention, the enzymes and secretions of the mouth are a “hostile" environment for HPV and other viruses.An equally important part of my answer to you however is, supposed you were exposed and got HPV. It would not be the end of the world since current estimates are that, conservatively over 85% of sexually active persons will acquired HPV. Most of those infections will, in turn be eliminated by the host's immune system. Thus, HPV is not a big deal. For those in whom infection occurs and host immunity does not clear the infection, nothing happens in most cases. Should you note an abnormality on your skin or mucous membranes which persist, you should ask a health care professional.
