Hello Dr,
Just yesterday i had sex with a prostitute at a brothel in the dominican republic.
It was oral fellatio and vaginal penetration with condom. I read that this is
still 'safe' sex however i have some questions :
1) condom was placed by the csw. I dont know what type of condom / quality it was : latex vs other. Does it matter?
2) searching on the web, i see disclaimers on condoms. Are they 100 % bullit proof against hiv?
3) why can you still get a women pregnat when using a condom but this forum feels so strongly about preventing hiv?
4) assuming my partner was hiv positive and i had the worst condom material, im i at risk at all?
5) should I get tested, again asuming worst case scenario that my partner is hiv +?

Thank you for your post. Here are your answers:
1) condom was placed by the csw. I dont know what type of condom / quality it was : latex vs other. Does it matter? THAT WOULD NOT MATTER, PROVIDED THE CONDOM DID NOT
BREAK.
2) searching on the web, i see disclaimers on condoms. Are they 100 % bullit proof against hiv? YES, IF THEY DO NOT BREAK OR COME OFF.
3) why can you still get a women pregnat when using a condom but this forum feels so strongly about preventing hiv? PREGNANCY CAN ONLY HAPPEN IF THE CONDOM BREAKS
OR COMES OFF. THAT IS WHY CONDOMS ARE NOT 100%.
4) assuming my partner was hiv positive and i had the worst condom material, im i at risk at all? ONLY IF THE CONDOM HAD BROKEN. AND EVEN SO, THE RISK TO YOU WOULD STILL BE LOW, ESTIMATED AT LESS THAN 0.1% IN THE CASE THAT SHE WAS POSITIVE.
5) should I get tested, again asuming worst case scenario that my partner is hiv +? ONLY IF YOU ARE CONCERNED. THE ONLY JUSTIFICATION FOR YOU TO GET TESTED IN THIS
SCENARIO IS FOR YOUR PEACE OF MIND.
